Slackware 14.1 is released!
# historical archive — written years ago, kept as it was. Some info is dated.
To be honest, the news reached me by e-mail at midnight on the 7th, and the subject line brought a smile to my face and plunged me into memories!
This is the beginning of the message:
Yes, it is that time again! After well over a year of planning,
development, and testing, the Slackware Linux Project is proud to
announce the latest stable release of the longest running distribution
of the Linux operating system, Slackware version 14.1!
...
signed ‘Patrick J. Volkerding’.
For those reading who don’t know Slackware, it’s enough to know that it is the longest-lived Linux distribution (the first release was July 16, 1993) and many describe it as a distro suited to ‘Linux purists’. In fact, being as unix-like as possible, it gives rise to the famous saying:
“When you know Red Hat, all you know is Red Hat… When you know Slackware, you know Linux… .”
You can find more information about the release, installation and configuration at slackware.com.
Well, there isn’t much else to say except welcome, and thanks to Patrick J. Volkerding and the whole Slackware Crew!
